EXPLANATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT
How does it all work?
•The kids receive a grade by earning points by performing activities from the ¡Tengo Ánimo! grading rubric shown above. This rubric can be found in the classroom as well.

•On the rubric there are key items from class (usually concepts that require the most practice and scrutiny) that I have hand picked for the kids to focus on. Any time a child uses any of these targeted items he or she will receive the allotted points for that action. The points are recorded on my clip board next to each students picture.
•At the end of the weekly period, the points are counted and a grade is awarded for their efforts. I have a brand new poster of this rubric hanging in my classroom for the kids to reference.
•During each quarter there will be an increased level of expectations from the kids. For example, simply saying 'hola' in Spanish will no longer be enough. The student must add to that "hello" by incorporating new vocabulary or phrases from our lessons in class. We started out slow in the first semester and now the kids are expected to do a little bit more. This semester, to earn an "A" for this assignment will be more rigorous. This rigor will separate and distinguish the over achievers in the class from the rest of the pack. It will also better gauge
where students are in their learning of the language in class and better help parents identify a drop off in performance.
where students are in their learning of the language in class and better help parents identify a drop off in performance.
•If a student earns more than 40 points during any given week, those points will be carried over to the next week's grading period. Any extra points left over at the end of a major grading period (a quarter or semester) will be placed into a special column in the grade book for extra credit. No points earned will ever disappear or go to waste.
•This will be one of several sources of formative grades for the year. It is very important to familiarize your self with the requirements for this assignment and understand what is expected on a weekly basis. I look forward to seeing your children benefit from this assignment as they grow in proficiency and in confidence.
